Thai favorite Ugly Baby has temporarily closed

Ugly Baby — the Carroll Gardens Thai restaurant considered by many New Yorkers to be among the best Thai restaurants in the city — has temporarily closed. Writer Jeremy Gordon first broke the news on his Twitter account, and the restaurant confirmed the news to Eater saying that it was taking a pause to prepare for indoor dining and to create a new menu.

The restaurant kept irregular hours throughout the pandemic, but this appears to be the first extended closure in a while. The restaurant didn’t provide a date for when it would reopen, but said in an email that it is hoping to do so as soon as possible.

Acclaimed chef Sirichai Sreparplarn opened this tiny Brooklyn restaurant in 2017. It quickly garnered acclaim with critics for its fiery fare and for the breadth of Thai cooking that it showcased. While the restaurant never offered outdoor dining, it has been selling photogenic food boxes and its sauces during the pandemic.
