A popular American Italian restaurant at Teesside Park will not re-open to diners, it's been confirmed.

Frankie & Benny's has operated throughout lockdown, for click-and-collects and deliveries only.

But questions were raised last week when one customer who booked a table at the restaurant, ahead of indoor hospitality reopening was told to not turn up.

And on Friday, when asked on Twitter why the Stockton outlet wasn't listed to book a reservation online, the restaurant replied: "Unfortunately this restaurant is now closed but you're able to find your nearest restaurant by visiting our website.

"We're sorry for any disappointment caused and we hope you're able to pay us a visit soon."

Frankie and Benny's owner The Restaurant Group has not officially announced the closure but has been contacted by Teesside Live for a statement.

The eatery at Teesside Park escaped a cull of 125 restaurants last summer, when the firm shut down a sixth of its estate in the midst of the pandemic.

It closed Mexican chain restaurant Chiquito's at Teesside Park, which has been taken over by burger chain Five Guys.

That restaurant is currently having a major refit in time for a summer opening.
