On March 20th, people all over the world will be celebrating Nowruz, the Persian New Year. During this celebration of spring, rebirth, and renewal, these London restaurants are here to help you celebrate.

We’ve included some Nowruz specials, supermarkets where you can get sweets, spices, and more, as well as some of our favourite Persian restaurants you can support right now.

Two Nowruz Meal Kit Specials

Berenjak

As well as their limited edition collaboration with British Persian artist Laila Tara to create a Haft Sin kit, Berenjak are delivering meal kits of Iranian classics like ghormeh sabzi (which comes with a Dizi pot from Iran), and mazeh boxes including kashk e bademjoon, mast o khair, and hummus. Mix and match their meal kits for a hearty Iranian feast at home. And check out their bazaar if you’re looking for some Iranian produce.

This Iranian spot in Covent Garden has an enticing Nowruz feast box for two on offer. Each box includes kuku sabzi, pan fried chalk stream river trout, saffron tahchin, and Iranian baghlava, with a choice to add things like bazaar bread, beetroot borani, and kofte tabrizi. Order soon to get it delivered anywhere in the UK before the 20th.

Zaman Supermarket

You’ll find this Persian specialty supermarket on Kensington High Street, and inside, you’ll find all the ingredients you need for a Nowruz feast at home. They’ve got an endless selection of spices, a butcher for the meat, baked goods and desserts in their patisserie side. And they’ve even got Persian caviar

Persepolis

This Persian-inspired Peckham spot is our go-to for a veggie feast, but that’s not what we’re recommending them for this time. Their online shop has a whole Nowruz section selling everything from spices like saffron and sabzi polo, to Persian paklava and zulbia. They’ve even got a bundle including sumak, senjed and esphand, three harder-to-find items for your Haft Sin.

Tavazo - The Persian Patisserie

This Persian patisserie and bakery has a bazaar-like feel, with nuts in huge silver bowls, trays and trays of desserts - including things like halva, baklava, and whole cakes - as well as freshly baked bread. Even if you come in here for one thing, trust us you’ll leave with a whole lot more.

Sadaf Restaurant

If there’s one thing you need this Persian New Year, it’s the baghali polo that this Kensington spot is serving. Okay, we lied, you’ll need more than that. Because if you’re ordering from here you don’t want to miss out on their joojeh koobideh, mast-o-khair, or chicken biryani. Although the prawn one is pretty excellent too. The point is, everything here is pretty great, and they’re delivering around W8.

Narenj

This restaurant on Kingston High Street is a favourite with locals. We love it for the kashk-e-bademjan, the momtaz (one skewer of boneless chicken and a skewer of minced lamb with saffron rice), and zereshk polow ba morgh - steamed rice mixed with barberries served with braised chicken - which are all excellent. Order a bunch of stuff, it’s hard to go wrong with anything here.
