BRISTOL | An Addison County landmark inn and restaurant has closed. The Inn at Baldwin Creek & Mary's Restaurant in Bristol, featured in a restored circa-1797 farmhouse on Route 116 a few miles north of downtown Bristol, closed after serving locals and tourists since 1983.

News of the business' closing, noted as occurring May 23, was posted on the establishment's Facebook page.

"It is with heavy hearts that we announce our bittersweet decision to officially step out of the restaurant-inn business and into much-anticipated retirement... Our closing weekend was an emotional, exhausting, and rewarding one," according to owners Linda Harmon and Chef Douglas Mack. "To those who were able to join us, we thank you for helping us celebrate the special place and final days of Mary's. To those we could not accommodate with a dinner reservation due to overwhelming demand, we send our sincere regrets and heartfelt thanks knowing you were there with us in spirit."

The owners reported that they are now busy wrapping up their time at Baldwin Creek, "readying everything for its new owners and moving our home base to Vergennes." Once settled, we are looking forward to reviewing everyone's memories of their experiences of Mary's at Baldwin Creek for inclusion in a compilation collection."

Harmon and Mack noted that their ice cream shop, lu.lu at 185 Main St. in Vergennes, will also sell Chef Mack's popular cream of garlic soup starting mid-June.

"We have also begun a list of folks that have expressed interested in touring Tuscany with us next spring. Let us know if you’d like us to add your name to this list," they posted.
