THE fast food chain, McDonald's is set to open another drive-thru restaurant in County Durham - and it is now recruiting for jobs.

The new site on Dragon Lane, Gilesgate near Durham City is expected to open next month with recruitment for full and part time staff underway.

Expected to trade 24-hours a day, seven days per week once open, the new drive-thru restaurant at St Andrew's Park has taken several months to build.

First announced in 2018, the chain previously hinted that the restaurant would open in 'early 2020' - although a May 2021 date was last year confirmed.

Last week, contractors could be seen adding the finishing touches as work to get the building ready continued.

A spokesperson for McDonald’s UK said: “We are delighted to be opening this new restaurant and we’re so looking forward to getting to know more of the local community.

“We’d like to thank our hardworking crew and our new customers in advance for their support and patience as we continually adapt to the safest ways of working during the pandemic.”

In the Durham City area, McDonald's has a drive-thru restaurant at the Arnison Centre.

Offering a mix of full and part-time roles at the new restaurant, McDonald's is advertising the jobs with a start date of this month.

Suggesting that the jobs on offer will be available to anyone over 18, with salaries rising in line with the minimum wage, the jobs are described as "fully flexible."
