Basil Babe pop-ups are appearing all over Ann Arbor. Check out where to pick up some delicious dumplings!

Ann Arbor has seen a new pop-up appearing at different locations across the city, and it’s awesome. Basil Babe is a mother/daughter duo who wants to bring dumplings to the table (literally).

Haluthai Inhmathong is a 25-year-old who quit working in advertising to pursue her passion for dumplings. Her mother, Vasanna Inhmathong, owned local staple Siam Square in Ann Arbor for 22 years. Together, the two are making and selling dumplings that borrow flavors from Thailand and all over Asia. 

Inhmathong would create homemade dumplings during the stay-at-home order, and eventually, she and her mother bonded together over them. She decided to open up and started taking orders from family and friends. Then the orders started to double. Eventually, local restaurants started to reach out to get a hand on some of their awesome dumplings.

Eventually, the duo began operating out of York, which is at 1928 Packard St. in Ann Arbor. Basil Babe pop-ups will be taking place at least once a month. Upcoming pop-up dates to find and try out food from Basil Babes are March 20, where they’ll be at Ann Arbor Distilling Company, and April 3, where you can find them at Cultivate Coffee and Taphouse.

During the first round of their pop-ups, about 32 customers placed orders. This caused the duo to create 1,400 dumplings. Although this seems like a lot, it’s not something the duo aren’t accustomed to. Before leaving her job, the pair made more than 12,000 dumplings for 240 orders.

The pair eventually hope to get a brick-and-mortar store at some point. But for the time being, be sure to keep an eye out for their next pop-up!
