CORNELIUS, N.C. – A Cornelius restaurant owner is stepping up to feed kids in need of a meal during the pandemic.
While some things have started to get back to normal in August, chef and restaurant owner Wes Choplin saw another need, kids throughout the community.
So each week, the staff at Choplin’s restaurant serves about 700 area children.
Staff packs up cafeteria style hot meals to deliver and hand out to families in need, no questions asked.
“These are things that when you look back as an old chef, you look back on what you did over your career. It’s not how many hours you worked, but what you did to make a difference along the way,” says Choplin. “So, it’s a little bit selfish of me. But yeah, I choose to do this.”
Choplin says community members help to distribute the food to their neighbors, or those who can, can pick up right from the restaurant.
And for those who would like to be added, at no costs or questions, Choplin says all you have to do is give them a call a day in advance to get your name in at 704-892-4800.
