Purrfect Day Cafe will open next to Libby's Southern Comfort. According to Northern Kentucky native and cafe "purrprietor" Chuck Patton, the cafe will collaborate with local animal shelter Kenton County Animal Services to provide cat adoptions, and will offer a variety of caffeinated beverages, wine, beer and bites — and eventually some fun events.

Cat cafes aren't a new thing, but when Patton first experienced one at Pounce in Charleston, South Carolina, he was inspired by its concept and impact on the community and knew he needed to open one in the city where he lived. Patton opened Purrfect Day Cafe in Louisville in 2018.

"I knew that I had to bring it to Louisville and now I have the opportunity to bring it Northern Kentucky where I was born and raised," Patton said in an email.

Patton connected with Beckey Reiter, director of Kenton County Animal Services, who loved his operation in Louisville and wanted to work together to make a difference in Northern Kentucky.

"We choose Covington specifically based on the unique energy and amount of renovation going into the city. We really thought we could be a big part of the city’s movement to become the place to be in the Tri-State area," said Patton.

The cafe will offer more than just a cup-o-joe when it comes to beverages: Visitors (of legal age) can expect to sip on some local brews, bourbon, wine and "meow-mosas." The food menu will range from "paw-stries" like cake pops and scones to gourmet "paw-pcorn" and "purr-etzles," all with adorably punny names like the Pawmpkin Spice Scone or the Purr-ific Sugar Cookie.

According to Patton when we spoke in the spring (before the pandemic), there are some exciting events planned for the future, once the shop gets its footing. There will be storytime with cats; Purr, Paint and Sip parties; yoga with cats; and more. They will also offer "private pawties" for birthdays, bachelorette parties and corporate events.

Guests can visit the cafe portion of the establishment without reservation and see the cats through the glass window, they even have an outdoor "Catio" to enjoy your beverages or snacks.

However, if you'd like to visit with the felines, you will need to reserve an hour-long session online, priced at $15. There are matchmakers at the cafe who can help find the right cat for you, and you will be able to take home your new furry family member the same day. Adoption fee is $120 (plus tax).

"All cats and kittens have been spayed/neutered, micro-chipped, received their flea and de-wormer treatments, and basic booster shots. They are also tested negative for both FeLV and FIV. Kitties 4 months and older have also received their rabies vaccination and have their license tags. Kitties under 4 months come with a voucher for the rabies vaccination, which can be redeemed at KCAS. The adoption price also a free 30 day offer of PetFirst Pet Insurance," the website explains.
